November 5th Update:

My Answers!  (Thanks for asking Danica!)

  1.  What brought you to this blog?
See my blog entitled something like "Do You Know Why I Blog?"
  2.  If you have been here before, what brings you back?
I can't get enough of it.  LOL  I think about what I want to say while I'm trying to get to sleep...LOL  Someone HAS to promise me when I get to the TMI place.
  3. If you will not return, why not?   If no one came to read my posts, I would stop posting. Does this make me an exhibitionist?  LOL  Nah, I wouldn't, actually. I guess I will stop blogging when I no longer have anything to say.
  4. Take a moment and tell me about yourself!
I'm a 49 year old homeschooling mom of two children, ages 15 and 11. I have been with my husband for twenty years and, I swear, I am still amazed with how much we love each other. We are living in Australia for a year. Maybe the newness has worn off because, lately, I keep catching myself asking myself "We live in AUSTRALIA?!"  I love movies, books, meeting new people, and exploring this amazing state of Queensland.
  5. The age old question:  What is for dinner tonight???
We had chicken Parmesan, salad, fruit, and garlic bread.
  6. Name a favorite song or two.
All of my faves are way old or very R&B. Anything by Luther Vandross or Michael Jackson or Marvin Gay or Seal or Melissa Ethridge or Kenny Loggins or Ray Charles. Some favorite songs:  "Go Out Tonight" and "Kiteflyer's Hill" by Eddi Reader.
  7. What would I see if I came to your house right now?
It's quite clean, mostly because we don't have much! The dishes are done, everyone else is asleep, phones and eReaders are all charging.
  8. What is the last thing you ate?
A cinnamon poptart with milk. Mom sent the poptarts in a care package this week!
  9. What is your pet peeve?
For such an easy-going person, I do have a few. But they can be summed up, in general, with Know-It-Alls and people who express such intolerant, unloving attitudes and who have no compassion for others. Oh!  And kookaburras outside our bedroom window at 4 am.
  10. For all of the money in the world, I would never...  ...take my family for granted OR forget what it was like to have nothing.
 OK, Now,  How about YOU!

  1. Hi Karen! I have really enjoyed your last few posts, but have not had time to write my thoughts down....I will do a quick response to this one before I have to get up and be productive!
    1. I don't remember what exactly brought me to your blog. Not sure is you had been at mine first, if a search of homeschooling atheists brought me to yours.......

    3. I will return...
    4. My name is Carla, I am 37. I have been married to Brian 9 years. We have 3 young children: Gareth - 6, Zane - 5, and Iris - almost 4. Brian and I are both atheists. We live on 10 acres in rural east central Illinois. We are trying to live a more simple life, expanding our gardens, wanting to build our own timber frame home in the coming years. Right now, we are living in the old, humble farm house. I love to quilt and do other simple sewing and craft projects. I volunteer at a local donation/thrift store on a weekly basis, my boys and I volunteer at a local reenactment pioneer village a few times a year, and and I help with PTO and am leader of the local 4H Cloverbuds (5-7 yr olds). Right now, I am satisfied with the small school district and my children's public education, with us supplementing at home. However, we are both interested in homeschooling and will do this if our children need or desire it. I was a gestational surrogate - delivered a baby girl Dec 2011. I am pursuing a 2nd/final surrogacy and have been matched with a gay couple from Argentina.
    5. I am kind of craving french toast and sausage. It will be that or chicken and noodles, using the leftover chicken we had last night.

  2. 1. I recently started homeschooling, so I added a bunch of homeschooling blogs to my google reader. I was thrilled to find yours since I knew I wouldn't have to filter out all the "God is great" posts.
    2. I read all your stuff in my reader as it comes across.
    4. My name is Natalie. I live near Erie, PA. I have a nine-year old son that is currently homeschooled, and a six-year old daughter that will probably be homeschooled next year. I currently teach part time as an adjunct in the Biology department of a local college, but I'm changing that so I can homeschool both kids.

    5. I am eating leftover vegetarian chimichangas since the rest of the family is going to a Halloween party (I have a hockey game to go play instead)

  3. 1. What brought you to this blog?
I don't even remember, I blog hop a lot, so probably saw your comment somewhere.
    2. If you have been here before, what brings you back?
I think your bold and really putting yourself out there. I'm also curious to hear how people raise atheist children in a very religious world.
    3. If you will not return, why not? I'll be back, I follow your blog so I get notifications when you post something new.
    4. Take a moment and tell me about yourself!
I'm a stay-at-home mom (31), my family consists of my husband (31), my daughter (3) and our dog (6mo). We moved to The Netherlands roughly 10yrs ago for the family business, and we have no plans of leaving yet. I write everyday, whether it be blogging or working on a book. Meeting my husband and moving abroad changed my life for the better, I'm now open-minded and no longer confined to old ways of thinking.

Now for a new fun and quirky questions:

    5. The age old question: What is for dinner tonight???
Probably jambalaya, I love southern food... some things don't change!
    6. Name a favorite song or two.
Phantom of the Opera - Wandering Child / Green Day - Basket Case
    7. What would I see if I came to your house right now?
A freshly mopped floor, a rosy cheeked toddler just out of bed, and a warm cup of coffee next to the computer.
8 What is the last thing you ate?
Carpaccio, but with lettuce so it's probably considered a salad
    9. What is your pet peeve?
I have too many, is it possible to be open minded and easily annoyed, ha-ha?
    10. For all of the money in the world, I would never...

    Thanks for the fun questionnaire!
What about you and your answers???

  4. 1. What brought you to this blog? I was trying to find curriculum that wasn't laced with religious beliefs etc.
    2. If you have been here before, what brings you back? I love reading the thought provoking questions and subjects you bring up & i'm fully impressed by your ability to (like written above) put yourself out there. It's awesome to see and inspiring for younger non-believers.
    3. If you will not return, why not? Oh, i will.
    4. Take a moment and tell me about yourself!

I'm a 26 yr old mother of 2 living in Des Moines Iowa. I've been married to my husband for a little over a year. We have a house in the city though we are eager to move to the country where we can be more self sustaining (growing food, etc) and can teach our children a quieter way of life. I stay at home with both of my children (daughter aka little monster is 4 and baby boy is 7 months). I love to sew, blog, embroider, read, learn & spend time creating things or playing with the kids. Our dreams include building a burma house with lots of alternative energy (my husband is an electrician) and grow our own food. I personally have a goal to make the majority of my children's clothing too.

Now for a new fun and quirky questions:

    5. The age old question: What is for dinner tonight??? Chili
    6. Name a favorite song or two. Hm, I really enjoy hip hop and like mostly underground music. Sleep awake by Soulcrate Music is becoming a favorite for my mornings.

    7. What would I see if I came to your house right now? Lily pushing around her shopping cart fulll of dolls, me at the kitchen table typing away, and baby boy laying down for his morning nap. It's pretty calm.

8 What is the last thing you ate?Um, dinner last night? I'm terrible about eating especially in the morning afternoon when I run in circles doing laundry and taking care of the kiddos. So, last night I had roast carrots turnips and a mixed cabbage/leaf salad in ginger dressing.

    9. What is your pet peeve? Mean people, having to repeat myself over and over, being cut off when I'm talking, and picking up my husbands clothes from off our floor lol

    10. For all of the money in the world, I would never... leave my family.

    thanks for the fun questions!

    4. Take a moment and tell me about yourself! I figured out my teen years by Madeleine L'Engle's books and talks with my parents. 10. For all of the money in the world, I would never...be aged 14 again - oh phew, I can't!

The kids and I were just talking about our visit to Suttons Beach today. On the way home we stopped at that little shop that sells surf kites and what not and bought my son a Boogie Board! He's been wanting one for months! We need to get out and use that SOON! Care to join us?
      Peace, Karen
