The Liebster Award

Good Morning !
I am honored to have been nominated for
the Liebster Award by a regular reader named Mae.
Mae has a sweet little blog called The Life of a Compulsive Crafter

What is a Liebster Award?

Here is the description:

"The Liebster Blog Award is an award given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers, most of whom have less than 200 followers (or have been blogging for less than 6 months). It is to show newer bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the word about new blogs.
It was created to promote appreciation and recognition among the blog world.
Liebster translates to “dearest” (or favorite/best) in German.
It is also known as the Love Blog Award."

  The Rules :

1. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
2.  Answer the 11 questions given by the nominator.
3.  Create 11 new questions for those you nominate.
4.  Choose 11 new blogs and link to them in your post.

The Blogs I Nominate AND that Recommend for a Good Read:

As you can see, this is more of an entertainment activity for bloggers.
Don't feel obligated to participate unless you want to.
But I HAVE nominated people and blogs that I TRULY enjoy!

  1. Notes from a Homeschool Mom -
This homeschooling mom lives in Georgia, USA and exudes such confidence! I enjoy this blog because Ahermitt is so cool and strong.
  2. Thinking Out Loud -
Lara is a newbie blogger who shares interesting tidbits about what is going in on her head... We need more like Lara, people who THINK!
  3. The Thinking Mother -
Christine is another blogger that I simply enjoy her musings. She is wise, clever, and fun and she has posts that are supportive for the homeschooling parent.
  4. Adventures of a Homeschooling Mom -
this is an unassuming homeschool blog that is, nevertheless, one I go to again and again. This blogger just seems like some who I would love for a friend!
  5. Wide Open Ground -
subtitled "The Religious Journey of a Liberated Daughter as She Travels Around the World."  Who doesn't love that?!
Lana is a blogger who is a true newbie to the community.  She has changed her blog on her writing journey and has gained momentum and courage as she writes. She is a young woman who was homeschooled and she pulls no punches and tells it like it is. I admire her spirit, courage, and wisdom! I don't think she knows that I follow her!
  6. Random Ramblings of a Stay at Home Mum -
this is a blog I can't get enough of. Lori is raw and honest and wise beyond endurance. I want to be her friend.
  7. Luminous Fire -
Gabriela is my online BFF. I honestly think we would rock the neighborhood if we lived next door to one another.  She shares her homeschool journey as well as pictures of her gorgeous child!
  8. Our Curious Home -
This is another blogger that I felt like I "knew" as soon as I read her blog. She writes like we are sitting over a cuppa...with gluten-free biscuits.
  9. What to Tell the Neighbors -
Suzanne is that strong woman who is who we all hope we could be if we needed to be strong. She's a woman who has more courage than she probably knew she had and who has an intelligent head on her shoulders. Read about her amazing stand for secularism in the Bible Belt!  I like to think we are really friends...
  10. I'm Unschooled, Yes I Can Write -
She shares her frustrations and triumphs of being a young adult who was homeschooled.  She is confident and wise, I tell ya'! And she's the kid I wish I could have been...
  11. Beautiful Life -
Catherine in New South Wales is a lovely mum who homeschools her kids and GETS IT that these are the beautiful days...

  2. Oh sure, just give me 11 new blogs that I need to go read about. Not like I had anything to do all weekend anyways...

But truly, thanks for sharing as I know the blogs you picked will be less about "God's mission for our family" and more about how to raise great kids in this crazy mixed up world we live in.

  5. I just found your blog when you nominated another blog I read. I love it. I homeschool as well and we are secular homeschoolers, in the sense that we homeschool for non religious reasons. Your blog is amazing. Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

  6. Karen, you really brightened my day with your nomination - but I couldn't find 11 new blogs. So I thought I'd answer your questions here:

How has your blog changed over time?

It's gotten more random- and not so heavy. I don't feel like I have to be a homeschooling apologist anymore.

Name some other blogs that you have "discovered" and enjoy.

    http://ohpeacefulday.blogspot.com/2013/01/happy-australia-day.html from another Australian homeschooler,

    http://churchyear.blogspot.com/ for her literary insights,

and http://crafting-a-life.com/craftlit/ so I can listen to someone explain the literary aspects of Dracula while I wash the dishes. (She's actually up to Jane Ayer right now, but I thought the phrase 'literary aspects of Dracula' was funnier than 'literary aspects of Jany Ayer'!)

How many "followers" do you have on your blog?

6 on google reader, 2 on WP and about 5 regulars from fb notifications. There are usually about 12 readers daily that come in from search engines.

How would you change the format of your blog?

I like it as is so far, I guess simpler is better, I read somewhere blog awards and blog lists should be on a separate page from the main one, but I haven't taken time to re-organize my sidebar.

Which of your blog posts gets the most traffic? (Leave a link)

http://www.ourcurioushome.net/2012/08/18/making-a-maze-from-caution-tape-guest-post-by-dan-dh/ and my husband wrote it, not me! But I forgive him for that ;-)

Which of your blog posts is your personal favorite? (Leave a link)
Oh dear - I love them all.

What ideas are you working on for your blog?

The ramification of Imagio Dei on education - it will probably be a series.

    Why did you start blogging?

Right after I learned I was pregnant with K, as I prepared to go to China with my friend to help her pick up her daughter, after writing and organizing my church's VBS and organizing my co-op's semester - because I was so busy as it was? Because I was loosing my mind and needed a place to write it all down? Because writing helps me know what I think? Because uploading photos is faster than making a scrapbook and you can use a search engine on it later? I dunno.

    What inspires you?

Golden light in the early evening, my kid's jokes, lovely books I read, thoughts that come to me when I'm walking to the YMCA to swim, pretty things in knitting books, old hymns.

What are your goals for your blog?

To listen for the good stuff, and write it down before I forget it.

What do you think about comments on your blog?

Goody Goody Gumdrops it might as well be Christmas!

    11 Random things about Me;

1 I love being funny, even if I am the joke.
2 I get defensive too easily.
3 My hair is doing really weird things in this January cold snap we've been having in New England. The air is really dry, and I'm trying out an anti-clorine shampoo.
4 I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and feel really wonderful since I went gluten free.
5 I'm really greatful for the help I've received from my Mother in law in going gluten free- I've gotten about 9 new gf cookbooks in the mail since New years.
6 I'm slogging through the last bit of a knitting pattern that I'm writing, you know the 20% that takes 80% of the time bit...
7 I haven't yet seen the end of the new Dr Who Christmas special with the snowmen.
8 I've borrowed Grace Kelly movies from the library just so I can look at the costumes.
9 My son is up in Boston tonight with my Mom and my Uncle to eat Chinese food and listen to a chamber music concert at one of the conservatories up there - I forget which one.
10 I think my husband's blue eyes are heart melting and he thinks my brown eyes are wonderful - how convenient!
11 I breaded fish with gf breadcrumbs and flour mix for the first time ever tonight, and it worked just fine.
